Kauramäki made his comeback to the ring back in April after 13 months absence cause of injuries. After a victory over Estonian Leonti Voronchuk, Kauramäki won his first BBU title fight although having taken the fight as a clear underdog against Mariusz Cendrowski (POL) at Polish boxer´s backyard. After one non-title bout Kauramäki defended his title on September at Pori just 30 kilometres away from his home town. The sixth round stoppage victory over Czech-based Russian Magomed Abdurakhmanov was also the runner-up for BBU Fight of The Year. The combined record of these two boxers whom Kauramäki beat at his BBU title fights was (before Kauramäki fights) 32 (15 KO) – 4 – 1. 24 years old Vasily “Professor” Lepikhin took a very close decision victory over countryman Simakov in a fight between two motivated and undefeated prospect boxers representing Russian TOP promoter German Titov´s stable. In one of the toughest fights in BBU history the home boxer Vasily Lepikhin faced the hardest test of his career thus far. Although Roman Simakov was down in 3rd round he was fighting back very well in the whole fight. The show was promoted by German Titov. With the victory Lepikhin improved to 7 (4KO) – 0 – 0 with which he also ended the year.
PROSPECT OF THE YEAR: LUKASZ MACIEC (POL)
20 years old Lukasz Maciec fought even 7 fights during this year and captured on April BBU International Light Welterweight title in a fight against Latvian Konstantin Sakara. His biggest fight during the year 2009 was a very close decision loss in non-title fight with countryman Krzysztof Szot. In that match Maciec was a real underdog but succeeded to make it a very close and entertaining match. PRESIDENT´S GREETINGS
I´m very happy and satisfied with the success for Baltic Boxing Union during the year 2009. This was just the second working year for BBU and after having 7 title fights during the year 2008 BBU clearly got better known and more appreciated status among managers and promoters by having extremely 13 title fights on 2009!
The improvement of young regional championship federation takes always its time and to earn the status of real valuable and hunted title, there is a long road to go through but I´m totally convinced that Baltic Boxing Union has got a good start and our team is on the right road.
So far we have had BBU title fights in four different countries and during 2010 I expect at least two new countries to appear on that list! BBU is also all the time strengthening its structure by signing more national representatives and creating more contacts.
As the president of Baltic Boxing Union I can honestly be very proud of all BBU and BBU International champions and also the level of title fights which we are sanctioning. As it has been proved, BBU title fights really provide some positive extra tension for the shows.
I would like to wish happy New Year for everybody within professional boxing! Let´s make the year 2010 to be even more active for professional boxing at this special Baltic area.
Sincerely
Markus Lammi
President of Baltic Boxing Union
